Intervention by Spaces
Collaborators: Yubusha Butoh
Abstract: interventions by space is a performance piece tackling the relationship between bodies and the digital space. During the pandemic, laptops became an important tool of communication that has kept us linked within our own confined space. like any tool, our bodies adapt and change for its usage and function, and the laptop is no different. During video calls, we seem to be suspended between two real points in an undefined space. This project treats the in-between as one that directly intervenes the body. The impact of this intervention digs into the body and reshapes its relationship of movement with others on screen. As we spend time in this space, our body starts to adapt by fidgeting and tiering. This performance attempts to live within that in-between space and learn to embody the ephemeral energy and how inhabiting these virtual spaces has, over the past two years, changed our body’s recognition of what movement can be. This piece is a work in progress developed at the Tokyo Festival Farm Asian Performing Arts Camp.
